Apostille
An apostille is a special stamp affixed to official documents issued by institutions and organizations of countries participating in the Hague Convention. It is a simplified form of legalization that gives legal force to a document in the territory of other states. In the case of preparing documents for countries participating in the Hague Convention since October 5, 1961, apostilling is applied, while for all other countries, consular legalization is used.
A document can only be apostilled in the country where it was issued. The validity period of the apostille itself is not limited, but it may be restricted by the expiration date of the document, such as certificates of no criminal record, civil status certificates, and powers of attorney.
In the Republic of Moldova, the placement and recognition of apostilles have been carried out since March 16, 2007. Apostilling is the only procedure that may be required to verify the authenticity of the signature, the capacity in which the person signing the document acted, or, if necessary, the authenticity of the seal or stamp affixed to the document.
